Question: Playing Guitar Standing up!?
I have always whatched my left hand as I play guitar and no one ever told me there was anything wrong with it until I looked at a couple other questions like this!. I used to look at my hands when playing piano but I learned how to stop because my teacher said I need to look at the notes not the keys, so after months of practice, I did!.
But nothing is wrong with that when I play guitar, I dont use sheet music(eww gross) so I'm used to sitting down and playing memorized riffs!. But I am trying to teach myself to stand and play but I can only see the top string when I have the strap at normal level!. when I pull it all the way up I can play but it looks really lame and is uncomfortable!. Help!? I have tried playing guitar without looking at my left hand I can't play anything!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do this!. Playing a piece you know well, pick a short phrase (a measure or two) and play it!. Repeat it, and repeat it again!. Now, look away and repeat it!. Keep doing this until you can do it without looking!. Now add a few more measures OR pick a different phrase!. Build up to where you can play an entire section once looking, and then not looking!. You have to teach your left hand muscle memory or you will forever have the crutch of having to tell it where to go!.

Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Same with piano, train yourself to not look down!. It's fine to look at your left hand once in a while-the greats do it-but if you plan to sing and play, you gotta let your fingers do their thing!. Your fingers have minds of their own!. They really do!.

Try and look straight ahead when you play riff and see what happens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The more you play, the more familar you will be with the shapes, patterns and fret spacing and eventually you won't need to see any of the strings!. Just keep practicing and it will eventually work itself out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
