Question: Can anyone tell me how can i count beats!?
i just can't count beat,neither could clap or tap with a song!.can any here please tell me how to improve understanding of tempo and count beats!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Trust me, you are in the same boat as most musicians!. I had the same problem only a few weeks ago!. If the piece is in Common time there will be a C or 4/4 at the beginning right next to the key signature or the cleff!. If the piece is in 4/4 time then this excercise will help you!.
Now a measure of quarter notes counted as the following 1 2 3 4!. A measure of eighth notes 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and!. Are you following me so far!? Now sixteenth notes are counted like this 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a!. Now half notes and whole should be simple, a measure of half notes is like this 1-3-!. Simple enough!? Now let's try mixing some of these to make a rhythm!. 1 2and 3e and a 4!. That's one quarter note two eighth notes four sixteenth notes and one quarter!. Try clapping that rhythm!.
Now try clapping a measure of each note that we discussed!. First four quarter notes!. 1 2 3 4!. Now a measure of eighths 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and!. Now sixteenths!. 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4e and a!. Now half notes!. Try doing this every day, eventually it will help you like it helped me!Www@QuestionHome@Com

When you look at a piece of music, it has a time signature!. It will look like one number on top of another or a C which stands for casual!. Most songs use 4/4 time!. This stands for four beats per measure, and the quarter note gets the beat!.

You would count this 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 and so on!. Every time you count, right on the interval, a quarter note would get the beat, and likewise, inbetween the intervals, the eighth notes would get the beat!. If you are resting, you would count this 1-2-3-4 2-2-3-4 3-2-3-4 4-2-3-4 5-2-3-4 and so on, to keep track of where you are!.

Different time signatures are very similar!. For example, if you have 2/4 time, there are two beats per measure and the wuarter note also gets the beat!.
