anywhere from 1/16th of an inch to 1/32nd - it all depends on preference!. What you want to avoid is string buzz- depending on the straightness of your neck, you should be able to go pretty low!. All the metal guys (Van Halen, Satriani, Vai) like super low action- it makes flying on the fretboard easier!.

One thing- super low action is not very good sounding!. Higher action will actually produce richer, fuller sounding tones!. Have you ever played an acoustic guitar with low action!? It sounds terrible! Raise it up and the sound becomes alot better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i play my electric with the strings as low as you can pretty much get without string buzz!.!.!.you get really fast action and i have never noticed any sound deficiency; but maybe that's just because i havent tried raising my strings in a while!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

hmmmm never really paid attention to that but i acoustics have more space than electrics!. if your worried take it to a local music shop and ask!. i remember having to get my electric adjusted!. didnt take long at allWww@QuestionHome@Com

about an eith of an inch maybe!. you dont want the strings to be dead with no action to them but if they are to high it will sound bad!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
