The words to operas, musical theatre songs, and things like that are referred to as 'libretto'!. So I'm not sure what a libretto vocal book specifically is, but I'm assuming that it is a book with lyrics in it!?

The word Libretto means 'little book' in Italian!. It is normally a book containing just the words, no music!. They are useful for many reason!. It used to be that audience members would talk them to operas so that they could follow the action!. Gradually translations would be included so that other nationalities could follow the words!.

Nowadays there are a lot of Libretti available for perfromers use!. Quite a few Gilbert and Sullivan operas have scores (which include the music) and Libretto, which included any spoken words and sung words!.

They are very useful on many levels!.
