Question: What Should I Play On Drumline!?
So, my school has a winter drumline, and I REALLY want to be in it!. My parents have given me the okay, so I can join!.

I did a google search to make sure I knew a few things before I show up and made a fool of myself!. And I found that drumlines are normaly with four drums!. I also discovered that I want to play the quads!.

Now, I am mostly a wind player, but I have also played the drums before and I loved it, just not in a drumline!.

I am also thinking that playing the quads would be nealy impossible for a freshmen girl to be allowed to play!. Which saddens me deeply!.

So, now I come to my question, what SHOULD I play on the winter drumline, if I want to join marching next year!? I want to be able to play the quads in marching or winter guard in the future, or both really!.!.!.

you are right about the freshman part!.
Im a freshman girl in drumline, and its usually the seniors that play the quads!. I play crash cymbals, which usually involves me following the snare around so they can use it as a hihat type thing!. sounds funny, but its actually not bad!.

I think if you were to join now, you would either be on base, cymbals, or, if you are good enough, snare!. Possibly quads!. Its hard to tell though, since all drumlines are different, especially mine(VERY small band)!.

Personally, next year, I plan on playing snare!. Its incredibly fun!. I cant really tell what you would like to play next year, because, well, yaknow!. hah!.

Good luck, and im pretty sure youll have an awesome time in winter drumline no matter what you play!. Its really awesome, I dont regret it!. And sorry that this is kinda all jumbled around, im really tired!. :P haha!.

theres this concept of "paying dues"!. which means you work your way up!. generally, the best players are put on snare and tenors (quads, quints), rookies (like you) get put on bass drum or cymbals---or even in pit!.
no matter what you get put on, work your butt off to get the skills you need to move up to quads!. drums may look easy, but there is a lot of technique and fine hand control that takes years to master!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

playing the quads would have to be the funnest its pretty simple when you get the hang of it(im not saying its easy but when you learn how to play it i think you get the most respect when on the drum line and it looks cool when you play good luck Www@QuestionHome@Com
