Teach self how to play guitar?

Question: Teach self how to play guitar!?

Is there anything good on the internet that I could use to teach myself guitar!? I have a dixon acoustic guitar but I can't afford lessons at the moment!.

My dad can only afford to keep paying for my cello and gymnastics lessons and I don't want to get rid of either of them!.

I heard that Avril Lavigne taught herself when she was younger!.!.!. So I was wondering if I could teach myself too!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes! some of the best players taught themselves in the past!. There are great sites that have beginner lessons with audio to help you out!. I would also recommend getting a chord poster that will show you the finger placement for simple notes!. There only about 10-20 bucks and invaluable!. The only other piece of advise is to strum and play around allot and to press hard on the strings until you build calluses on your finger tips so that it doesn't hurt!. It can be painful for the first couple of weeks so start small 5-10 minutes a day, once your finger skin thickens it will be much easier to play around for hours and figure out what your doing!. I think you know how important lessons are in your wanting to continue them for Cello and Gymnastics!.
No the Best Players are not self taught!. They may not have paid for lessons, but they spent many hours watching and talking with others!. They will tell you of the frustrations that they were only able to resolve when they got together with other players!.
What ever you decide, get some instruction from a live person paid or free, but where they can see and hear your progress!. That is the only way that mistakes are going to be caught early before they become serious or discouraging problems!. The use of web sites is a bonus, but not the way improve your skills and definitely not the way to begin!.!.
Remember that you might be able to teach yourself how to fly an airplane, but who would want to be your passenger!. You might be able to teach yourself guitar, but who would want to be in your band!.
To learn some things you need a teacher!.
