Question: What makes a good guitar!?
I've been considering buying a good electric-acoustic guitar, but I have a few questions!. I've been using an old one that I picked up at a pawn shop for $80, and it has worked!. But I'm tired of it, and starting looking at newer, nicer guitars!. I see guitars that are $200, $400, $1000+, and I was wondering what makes a guitar worth so much!. I'm thinking about spending $300-400, and I was wondering if I was going to be getting a good deal for my money!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The price often reflects how well-made the guitar is, as well as how well-known and popular the manufacturer is!. For acoustic-electrics, you want to see what kinds of woods are used and what kind of bracing there is inside the guitar!. Neck-thru and set-neck guitars are often worth more than bolt-on necks!. The type of electronics will also make the guitar more expensive, as well as special appointment like abalone inlays, type of tuners, fretboard -- if it comes with a case or not, et cetera!. The $1000 and up category often goes to instruments that are handmade (not mass-produced stuff that you'll often find in a guitar store)!.

Personally, I think that if you are looking at newer guitars because you are tired of your old one, I would recommend getting the old one set-up again and make it play better!. Find a good guitar tech and have him/her setup your guitar to make it play/sound better!. Sometimes, even new strings will make your old guitar sound great again!.

For the $300-400 range you are looking into, chances are that you will get a better guitar but not a great guitar!. And, you don't want to spend THAT much money on something that is just different from what you have now!.

For a nice (meaning, a real step up from what you have) guitar, I would recommend saving around $600 - 800 and wait a while!. Do some research and read reviews of guitars at harmonycentral!. There, you'll find honest reviews from real players!. Don't just go to a guitar store and expect the sales people to be honest with you!. Most of them don't know anything about guitars and just want to sell whatever garbage they have!.

Hope this helps!. I've been playing for over 20 years and have owned and played about 50 or so guitars in that time!. About 4 or 5 of them were actually great guitars!. The rest were just a waste of money!. It took me a long time to figure out what is good and what isn't!.

FYI, my favorite guitar right now is one that cost around $500 (I play it the most and it has the most comfortable neck)!. Bought it from a friend 'cause I liked the sound!. My most expensive guitar ran me around $1500 but I rarely play it (not because I don't like it but it just isn't my favorite)!. So there you go!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
