You have two decent options in that budget:

* Get a used Gibson Les Paul Studio, on ebay or craigslist for example!. This will cost probably your full budget!.
* Get an Epiphone LP standard or classic!. Don't waste money on a "custom" model, or a signature model!. You can get the standard or classic new for $400-500!. Then take it to a guitar shop or luthier and have it set up!. This will run you an extra $50 or so!.

You probably can't go wrong with a Gibson, even a used one so long as it's in decent condition and the original owner took care of it and set it up well!.
Epiphones are kind of hit-and-miss!. Some are pretty low quality, but others (if you get lucky, or take the time and effort to find a really high quality one) can give any Gibson a run for its money!. When people rip on Epiphone, take it with a grain of salt!. If you find one that doesn't have any major problems (overhanging frets, a high fret or two, etc) - the only major difference between it and a gibson is the pickups!. And you can change those later if you want!.

I've been playing 20 years, and have owned all sorts of cheap and really expensive/high quality instruments!. To this day i still keep my epiphone LP for practice!. It truly rocks!.

Anyhow, these are your two best options!. I would recommend against getting any other brand LP clones unless you really know what you're looking for in a guitar!.

Hope this helpsWww@QuestionHome@Com

hey Ibanez got sued by Gibson for copying there LP too closely,
whats that tell you!? then theres the Epiphones but you wont get the same bang for the buck, but it will look exactly like a LP as Gibson owns them and wont sue themselfsWww@QuestionHome@Com
