Question: Getting rid of nerves!?
I am trying out for PMEA honors band for the second time this year on clarinet!. last year, my fingers seemed to become detatched from my brain!. they wouldn't do what i told them to do, and it really affected my score!. this happens every time i have to perform in front of people by myself!. i feel like i've tried every trick in the book!. ive eaten bananas, taken deep breaths, drank water, massaged my hands, and every other mind trick possible!. any advice on how not to choke again!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

try to play whenever you can in the presence of others, as much as possible!.!.!.

be confident in what you're playing, and it'll defianantly show in your performance!.!.!.confidence is the key to any musician because if you have it in your head that you are there to blow them away and nothing can stop you, that's how you'll translate to them!.!.

remember you don't have absolutely perfect to get their attention!. Just show them that you love what you're doing and that you are confident in what you're playing!.!.!.!.

Stage Fright stops many a performer from success!. There are many suggestions running from picturing your audience in their underwear to eating a certain fruit!.
I have found a method that worked wonders for me and I have taught others to use it with great success!.
Focus on the performance!. If it is music:
You concentrate on each tone, where the melody is going!. If your mind is on giving the best performance and if you are into the piece, you will not be thinking about the audience!. Not only does it eliminate your stage fright, you become a better performer!. Start by doing this in your practice!.

the key is really just to practice so much you do it without thinking!. keep calm, and do what you have always practiced!. also, the only cure to stage fright, is practicing in front of people as often as you can, eventaully you dont even feel the nerves anymore, its just like playing alone!.
