Question: Changing instruments Freshmen year!?
I'm a freshmen in high school and this is my 5th year playing double bass!. I love it but I hate not being able to bring it anywhere because of it's size!. also, it's expensive so if something ever happened to it then it would be a lot to cover!. I wanted to go to Curtis Institute but I don't like double bass!. I'm a decent player!. If I switch to violin or cello then would that ruin my chance of going to Curtis!? I'm willing to practice 3 hours a day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

with your backround playing that instrument you should be able to switch to violin or cello pretty easily!. viola would be harder!. i started on piano, then in 5th grade went to cello and piano!. in 7th switched to violin, and gave up cello!. within one year i passed many people in my class due to the fact that i was dedicated, as you are!. in 10th grade i added viola!. within one year i was top of my class on viola, and leading the section in the youth symphony!. it takes effort to switch, but you can do it, if that what you want!.

good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Visit a local university with a music program!. Ask the string instructors there!. Plan on studying privately from now on!.
