Question: Jazz music with a concert flute!?
My Band director will only allow the Saxes into the Jazz section, but I KNOW somewhere I've heard of a concert flute playing jazz!. Anyone know a specific song!? Links would be helpful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

OOH - you have hit a nerve! Google for Bill McBirnie, Dave Valentin, Hubert Laws, Nestor Torres, Herbie Mann, Jeremy Steig - there are ZILLIONS of great jazz flutists! You might need a pickup or head mike - SO!?!?!?!?!?

Go to Yahoo Groups, and join FLUTENET!. Post your question there!. THREE THOUSAND professional flutists will load you with more info than you can imagine! Your band director needs to WAKE UP!

I *own* that Galway album - it is lame!. It has the Mike Mower "Sonata Latino" on it - and poor Sir James cannot count nor keep anything swinging!. NOT NOT NOT a good example of flute jazz! Great answer by the person just before me, but even James Galaway put out an entire CD of Latin Jazz music called Tango del Fuego!.

I was a member of a jazz band in school, and all the director did was give us flutes the saxophone, trumpet, or a combination of the two parts!. It gave a whole different flavor to the sound!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
