They design the lights!.!.!.!.they will talk with the choreographer/director to find out what the overall "feel" of the piece is, and if there are any special requirements (a storm, a streetlight, a sunrise etc); decide which lights and gel colours they are going to use to achieve the effects they want; draw up a rig plan so the lighting crew can hang the lights; focus all the lights (make sure they are pointing in the correct direction, that the beam is the right size and that the colour is correct); set the light levels for each cue in the show (called "plotting" the show) and sit in on technical and dress rehearsals to make any changes that need to happen!. A lighting designer needs to have a great knowledge of different types of lights and what they do, a knowledge of gel colours and how costumes will react to them (some blue gels make certain black dyes go red, for instance), and be able to achieve the look that the choreographer or director wants for the piece!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
