Question: Ren Faire costume etiquette!?
I know that most, if not all, Renaissance Faires have no dress code for the public, but I was wondering if there was some sort of costume etiquette!. I've been to a handful of faires and at all of them, you could always tell the actors from everyone else because the actors' costumes were always more extravagant than anyone else's!.

There are so many gorgeous period gowns available for purchase, but many of the ones I'd consider buying are extremely intricate and elaborate!. And while I enjoy getting attention for what I wear to the event, I don't want to upstage the actors who have put so much into their appearance!.

Is that I valid consideration to make, or should I not worry about it and wear whatever the hell I want to!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a former renfaire employee, and I've been as both an actress and a playtron in every kind of costume imaginable!.

If you wear something gorgeous expect ooohs and aaahs and a lot of questions!. Make sure it's washable or dry-cleanable as many renfaires have icky stuff on the ground, and someone can and will spill something on you at one point!.

Lace catches on things and tears, so it's not a good outdoor choice!. also be careful of your accessories--take a trusted friend with you so that when you go to the bathroom you can watch each other's accessories!. Unfortunately too many thefts happen at renfaires!.

Actors will most probably enjoy your costume, but put some thought into your persona as well for the best result!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wear what you'd like! If you want to be authentic, then here are historical guidelines: http://www!.renfair!.com/socal/participant!.!.!.

My son's teacher had the class read the guidelines before they put together their costumes to attend the fair!. Some of the girls' garments were very fancy!. The teacher works with the fair and he had no problem with them dressing in that manner!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should wear whatever you like; but you might be mistaken for someone dressed as royalty!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
