So you're parents won't let you join band! Oh the horror!

Band has so many opportunities and beneficial aspects to it!. I'll name a few!.

Band students are usually the goody two shoes!. Okay, so a little perverted but better than the druggies and gangsters!. Just don't mention the perverted part!. Music has been proven to help improve math skills!. Colleges love band dorks, it perks up the application!.

And of course it's fun, lots and lots of fun! You get into football games free, get to go places, make lots of friends, play really cool pieces of music, and make tons of memories!.

Join band!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Playing the sax is a total BLAST! It's a lot of work, but it is one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life!

To convince your parents, print off this answer!.!.!.

Playing sax (and clarinet) allowed me to travel all over the United States and Europe!. I have played in the Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl halftime shows, and a Super Bowl pre-game show, as well as the London Day Parade!. It allowed me the opportunity to be a guest conductor for the London Symphony for one piece at the Wembley Concert Hall!. I also had the privelage of an impromtu jam session with the late great LeRoi Moore, RIP (late sax player for the Dave Matthews Band) backstage before their concert, and have jammed out with Brian Setzer and his orchestra!. I was able to attend Master Classes and jam sessions hosted by Tito Puente (father of latin music that helped it into mainstream jazz), and have met (and worked with) TONS of other prominent figures in a variety of genres of music!.

All of this was before I even graduated high school!.

The best thing about all of this was that to be in band, their policy was that we had to keep our grades at no less than a B average!. Any D's or F's and we were automatically out until those grades were brought up!. So everybody in band carried at LEAST a 3!.0 gpa, and band looks GREAT on a college application as an extra-curricular!.!.!. the gpa alone made us all eligible for the National Honor Society, which also shines on college apps! If you get good enough, your sax playing can even PAY FOR COLLEGE, even if you aren't a music major!. That's how I paid for mine! And remind your parents that the average cost of tuition for a 4 year college is around the $100K mark- imagine if you just had to blow and wiggle your fingers to pay your way!

also, there have been various studies that link playing an instrument with better understandings of math and science, and faster brain development in children!. It also pushes you towards a healthy lifestyle (unless you decide to model yourself after Charlie Parker! LOL) as it takes a LOT of physical prowess to play an instrument well!. Why do you think symphony guys are all so old!? They have been playing all their lives and will never die! Hahaha!

Anyways, I wish you luck at convincing your parents!.!.!. like I said at the beginning, it is hard work, but oh so worth it! Have fun! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
