Question: What does it mean when my Tube Amp is making a wishy hiss sound that goes away and comes back randomly!?
My Peavey Valve King 212 will randomly make weird wishy sorta untuned TV channel noises, not like white noise or distortion!. It will do it without any inputs, and it will come in and out, sometimes not doing it and sometimes it will constantly do it!. I imagine this is a tube issue!? How do I check it out!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

the same thing happened to my amp (that is if i'm understanding you correctly) it made a loud fuzzy noise randomly, and it was a tube, more specifically a preamp tube (the smaller tubes)!. try turning it on and tapping or wiggling each of the tubes firmly and when it makes the noise when you jiggle a certain tube, then replace that one!. if it's not that then i really don't know how to helpWww@QuestionHome@Com

it could be a number of factors!. Is it too close to a radio or tv!? sometimes the signals from the two can interfere!. My main guess would be a grounding problem with your guitar!.!. It could also be shielding problems if your guitar and amp have the volume turned up!. It's common, especially if you have single coil pick ups!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
