Question: Would you say bass is easier to play than regular guitar!? or are they both the same in difficulty!?

bass parts are generally easier to physically play, yes!. But, somehow, not!. It's much harder for musicians to find a good bass player than to find a good guitar player! There's a lot more to being a good bass player that is hard for a lot of people!. As mentioned, timing is really really important!. Another important element is when *not* to play (although the same could be said for any instrument)!.

One thing to consider with bass is this: Unless you really really love it, you generally need to play bass with other people to get the most out of it!. Sitting in your room playing your favorite songs on bass (or at a party) is probably less fulfilling than doing the same with a guitar!.

It also depends on the style of music!. As an extreme example, punk guitar is a lot easier to play than jazz bass!.

If you're trying to decide which to take up, pick the one that seems most interesting to you!. It's by far the most important thing because you want something that will sustain your interest during the initial "what the f*ck is going on with this thing and why does it sound terrible" part!. ;)

good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I' d say that bass is actually a bit harder to play well than guitar!. Like the other answer said, you have to have impeccable timing and a flair for counterpointing rhythm!. Some bass riffs can be extremely complex and fast, and that's pretty hard to do on those big, thick strings!.
Try listening to "like a Prayer" by Madonna and picking out the bass riff! It's a real doozy!.

When I was trying to form bands back in the 70's, most bass players were failed guitarists who figured that 4 strings and one note were easier to play than chords!. Boy, were they wrong! I had to deal with mainly morons playing the bass!. One guy couldn't even remember a simple bass line for one or two songs even though we taught him, he'd forget by the next practice!.
also being a pretty accomplished guitarist myself, I can muddle through a simple bass part and played bass on many of my recordings in my home studio!. (I played all the instruments including drums and keyboards) But I'm nowhere even close to being a good bass player!. I can play a part if I learn it, but to just jam cold on a song is very hard!.
You need a really good knowledge of scales to be able to play the bass, while a guitarist can use 2 or 3 basic solo patterns and play cool solos to just about anything!.

So Bass is much harder than guitar in my humble opinion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't make your decision on which to play by which one is "easier"!. Both are musical instruments that will require work and dedication to learn to play well!. To play bass, you have less strings to play, but you need to have very very good timing to be a good bassist!. A good bass player is crucial in any band!. On the other hand, even if you know only a few chords on the acoustic guitar will guarantee you will be the life of every party, and lead everyone in sing-a-longs, etc!. If it was me Id pick the acoustic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
