The term, "Best," is vague but I will enlighten you on which techniques I used when starting out!.
First off, know initially that in my earlier days I practiced for hours a day!. Anyhow, one approach that you may find useful is just simply learning to play lots, and lots, and lots of songs!. From all different styles!.
You also need to LISTEN to EVERY style of music as often as you can!. Spend hours exposing yourself to new music!. This helps you more than you think!. To learn songs there is a really good web site (unless you already know about it) called ultimate-guitar!.com!. It has thousands of guitar tabs and can be very helpful!. However, learning a song simply by listening to it and figuring it out improver your, "Ear," for music!.
Another important thing that a vast majority of young guitarists struggle with is how they play!. DO NOT FOCUS ON PLAYING A SONG FAST, FIRST, CONCENTRATE ON GETTING IT RIGHT!. I cannot stress this enough!. Kids learn how to play songs but screw up so much because their trying to keep up with the tempo that it sounds like cats dying!. Learn how to play the song really well SLOW, then build up speed!. Speed is important, but if you don't concentrate on getting the notes right first, it develops bad habits!.
Learn as many chords, scales, and arpeggios as you can!. (arpeggios not as important)
And last but not least, chord composition!. This can get confusing, but there are plenty of Youtube videos and internet sites that will teach you for free!. They even have classes for this!. Hence, it is very important, and although many musicians lack the comprehension of it, many would be WAY better if they did!.
EXAMPLE: Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold > Knows chord composition!.!.!.!.!.Billy Joel Armstrong of Greenday > Doesn't SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN SKILL LEVEL!?
There is no, "Best," guitar, every guitar has it's 'Top of the line' models!. Personally, I think Gibson has gone way down hill in the past few years!. Fender, Schecter, PRS; it really depends on what style you play!. PRS are REALLY nice of you get a good one!. They sound amazing, but their pricey-to say the least!. Fender is always an indisputable option for any style really, I recommend one over $500!.
Amps are very important also!. Oh, and despite what anyone tells you, you don't need a half stack unless you're playing a stadium!. They look sweet, but they're a pain in the a$$!. I'd go for a Line 6, Marshall, or, if your wallet's deep enough, a Mesa Boogie or Bogner!.

I hope I helped, kid, and best of luck to you and your band!. I wish I had this kind of info when I was starting out!.

I'm far from an expert, but I would practice songs you know and gradually play harder ones as you go!. The internet also has info on how to improve technique as well!. As far as the best guitar, there really isn't one!. Gibson Les Pauls are kind of the holy grail for rock guitarists, but they are at least 2000 bucks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
