YES! All my students that have learned piano before they played the violin have achived alot more in the same time frame as my other students who havent!. The up side of piano is you can read music and you understand about tones and semi-tones!. The only down side (ad this is tiny because everybody struggles with it!) is that some of my students who have played piano first don't quite get (at first) that if you put your finger down it dosen't mean that its the right note! it does help in a way!. i learned piano before i learned violin (which i actually quit this year heh!.!.!.), and i think it gave me a slight advantage in terms of music theory!. one of the hardest parts for a lot of people as they're first learning an instrument is learning to read the notes quickly and correctly!. with the piano, you get a basic knowledge of the treble (and bass) clef, so it helps a lot when you're reading the violin music!. there's also other stuff, such as dynamics, rhythm/beat, etc!. that might come in handy after learning the piano first!. if you've played piano for a while, you'll also be familiar with what the notes sound like (pitch), which will help too, since you can't tell exactly where your finger should be on the violin when playing a certain note unless you listen carefully!. or, at least, you won't be tone-deaf when you play the violin XD but other than that, the two instruments are still very different, so there's still lots to learn about the violin :]

hope that helps ^_^Www@QuestionHome@Com

well, in the devil went down to georgia there's nearly constant violin playing, but every once in a while when charlie daniels goes into a new verse you'll hear a piano ascending with chords GBD up an octave so in some ways yeah sure!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

You already know the basics of reading music!. that does not change!.
You have an idea of what the correct pitch is when playing!.
You have a lot of technique that you will have to learn, but yes the piano playing will help!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
