Question: My son is in the 5th grade, what is a good brand of snare drum to buy him!?
I would probably spend around $200 to get him everything he needs, I assume a practice pad and stick are separate, so would go up to $250 if this is the case!. I want to get him a good brand that will last him a long time! Www@QuestionHome@Com

Buy quality, buy once!. If he loses interest you can sell a good snare easier than a crappy one!. No need for a separate practice pad, just get the kind that sits on top of the snare!. One more thing, if this is for school band you need to find out what size and shell type they require, steel, wood, brass, 5", 7", 8", etc!. Below are some worth looking at!.

At this stage of the game, brand is hardly important!. I highly suggest you visit a drum shop or musical instrument store that sells used instruments!. You will be able to purchase a better quality drum for the same amount as you would spend on a new one!. I would explain the situation to a sales rep and let them help you pick out some snares that fit your budget!. If you are very nice to that person, odds are they will throw in the sticks for free, and practice pads are cheap to begin with!. I very rarely even used mine!. I often used our city phone directory!. $200 should be more than sufficient!.

Good luck!
