I am 20 years old and would like to know if i'm to late to start playing guitar!. If i'm not than which company, were should i buy it, and how much is reasonable!? I also would like to know if I can learn from a book, and if it's true that I'm better off starting with an acoustic guitar!.

As a guitarist of 38 years, I hope you'll follow my advice!.
First of all, it doesn't matter what type of guitar you get
-acoustic, electric, hybrid- It's just a matter of taste!.
But the most important thing is to get the best guitar you
can afford!. Even if it means having to wait to save-up enough money!.
I've known of many people who gave up the guitar because it
was too difficult to play and/or didn't sound good!.
But the problem wasn't them, but rather a cheap, poorly made
or defective instrument!.
also, a quality instrument will be easier to sell or trade-in!.
For a first time purchase, I strongly reccomend buying new,
from a trustworthy retailer!. This way, if there is a problem,
you'll have some kind of buyer protection!.
also, don't get too hung-up about looks!. Judge a guitar mostly
with your ears and fingers!.
Expect to spend a minimum of 800 dollars for a new guitar!.
If you're going electric, plan a few hundred more for a decent amp!.
And you'll want to have a good case to protect your axe!.
-Guitars are quite fragile!. The "baggies" or "cardboard box"
cases that sometimes come with mid-line guitars, are next
to useless!. It is worth it to spend (maybe) another 80-100 bucks
on a good hardshell case!. If you're buying a new guitar at the same time, dealers will sometimes give you a discount on a hardshell
case, if you ask politely!.

Books are a good, inexpensive way to start!.
I recommend "The Guitar Handbook" by Ralph Denyer
-a virtual goldmine of information and instruction in a single volume!.
The best (and priciest) method is one-on-one instruction from a
professional!. Learning to read standard music notation is easy,
and will put you ahead of the crowd!.
And there is a large selection of excellent guitar tutorial programs
for pc, that were not around when I started!. You may want to go
that route as well!.
Finally, No, it's never too late to learn something you're
passionate about!.
Remember: You get what you 'play' for !

It's not too late to learn guitar!. I suggest starting off on acoustic since majority of beginners start on that anyway, and for good reason: it will build your finger strength and make playing electric-if you were to move to that-easier!.

Guitars cost anywhere in the $100 range and the good brands are Taylor, Ibanez (which is what I have), and I keep hearing Takamine makes good acoustics as well!. Check out music stores in your area to find where to buy guitars!. All music stores sell instruments and guitars are one of them!. A store employee will be able to help you choose the right one!.

You can start learning from a book (Teach Yourself Visually Guitar), but I HIGHLY suggest investing in private lessons!. I've been taking for 3 1/2 years and have gotten farther and learned more than any book can!. (Of course, I still use the internet and that book I recommended as reference, which is what you can do in addition to lessons)!. Finding a good teacher is hard, but perhaps the music store that you end up buying your guitar from has teachers!. Check into that!.

Whoo!. That was long!. :-p

But all in all, you'll get frustrated at times but if you REALLY want to play you'll forge through the frustration and come out on top!. Have fun!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I started 20 years ago with a cheap electric and a 15 watt amp!. I always found the electric to be more satisfying!. Plus, you can plug headphones into most practice amps if your family/roommates don't want to hear your racket!. I picked up the guitar 'cause I love rock, not folk!. I started using song books to figure out chords -- I don't have the patience for lesson books!. Whatever you do, don't spend too much!. Do a "strat pack" or something similar for around $150!. You'll figure out what kind of guitar fits you best only after you gain experience!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If are going to take it all the way start on acoustic!. You have to press harder on the frets, and learn to run through scales w/out distortion covering up mistakes!. books are hard cause they dont answer Qs!. You can learn chords from them but alot more is hard!. IF YOU DONT HAVE A NEED FOR LEARNING MUSIC NOTATION, USE TABS!!!!!!! WAY EASIER!. any more Qs, email me guitarrosco@gmail!.comWww@QuestionHome@Com

what kind of music are you interested in learning!?

acoustic is nice, but electric is good as well!.

if you are really convicted to do this, then you can get an electric guitar!. you can do the same thing on all guitars!.

Martin and Taylor and Breedlove are the best brands for acoustic guitars when you get into the 800 and up price range!. I don't know how you buys things!? Do you want a cheap guitar that you will have to upgrade in a few years or less!? Do you want an expensive guitar that will last!? If you do the latter and you quit guitar, then that is a waste of money, while always upgrading is more expensive than starting out with a good guitar!.

I bought a practice guitar and amp when I started 6 years ago!. I love songs with electric guitar!. electric guitars are more versatile!.

I don't own an electric guitar but i'm a better player than most people with the same amount of experience as me!. You can learn from books, internet, or the best way is a teacher!. Teachers can single out your interests and choose the best method of learning for you!.

for starting, no more than 300 should be enough for a guitar and practice amp!. squire makes the best starter packages from what i've played!. You could always buy them separate!. Fenders are good Gibsons are good but expensive!. Ibanez are good when you get into the prestige series!. Jacksons are good in the 500 and up range!. There are so many different brands it's hard to compare without knowledge of your prefered music choice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
