Question: I've just started playing the guitar (I'm 15), do you think it's too late to be really good!?
I played the cello for 5 years but quit last year, and by that time I had gotted pretty good!. Now I'm starting guitar!.!.!.my teacher says I'm doing really well!.!.he doesn't believe me when I tell him it's the first time I've played, but that's probably because of my previous experience with string instruments!. Do you think it's too late for me to be great at the guitar!? I'm kind of a perfectionist, btw!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Short answer, No!.

I started 17 and while i can't play lead very well (solos etc (i don't have the patience to practice, if i did i'd get good at it))

I started learning to play rythmn at 19 and i'm now 21, I play chords stuff very well and easily, i've only been doing that 2 years now!.

I regularily lead a local church in worship on my acoustic, so!

It just takes practice, you're still young and you've got past experiance TOO!.

Ask your teacher his opinion, ask him if he thinks you could be as good as Steve Vai, and he'll probably tell you yes, with practice!Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's not to late you might end up being amazing if you enjoy doing it and then keep playing and the perfectionist part of you won't let you give up anyways :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

your only 4 years behind when SRV started playing, that tells me that by the time your 39 you should be able to burn the strings off as well as he did at the end of his lifeWww@QuestionHome@Com

Remember,

Joe Satriani started when he was 14!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no as long as you become a guitar hero freak and throw out your life to play it constantly you should be good to goWww@QuestionHome@Com
