If I understand your question correctly, you are talking about "independence"!. In other words - the ability to do several different things at once!. I know kids who started on piano in early childhood can easily do left-right hand independence!.

But, you are probably like me, having started music much later!. For several years, I had a tough time developing independence!. I originally thought I just wasn't coordinated enough!. But after a lot of struggling and experimentation, I figured out how to do it!. The key is that you have to conceptualize the timing of each musical part in your mind!.

For example, if you want to sing and play guitar at the same time, practice singing the song repeatedly, until you can do it without really thinking about it!. Then play the guitar part repeatedly until you've got it completely memorized!. Afterward, it will be pretty easy to put the two together!. Listen to yourself, to make sure it sounds good!.

The same goes for playing multiple drum parts!. Let's say you are learning to play something on the drumset!. Start by learning the hi-hat part first, then the snare, and then the bass drum!. Now, put the hi-hat and snare together!. Finally add the bass drum in!. Again, listen and adjust your timing as necessary!.

You can use the same skills for any instruments!. Remember, this is not a coordination problem, but is a timing problem!. Once you get the timing in your mind, the coordination comes naturally!.

Good luck !Www@QuestionHome@Com
