If you just want something different, try Eastwood guitars!. They make copies of old Teisco, Kay, Airline, etc!. models!. They actually play quite well, and are more reliable than the originals!. If you want something more traditional, but maybe not so well-known, try Hagstrom, Godin or Italia!. I really like several Hagstrom models, personally, although they may be a bit out of your price range new!. Try pawn shops, because you can sometimes find some great buys on really oddball guitars there!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I just bought a Kramer Vanguard FR-440S ( a cheaper copy of a Jackson Randy Rhoads) for $270!. I'm getting it tomorrow or Tuesday so I'm really excited about it!.

These are the only places that sell Kramer Guitars!.
also, do know that Gibson OWNS Kramer guitars

www!.gibson!.com - and you'll see the Kramer name on their site!.!.!.!.
just click on that link

The neck is hard maple
the body is solid alder
24 jumbo frets
and a inverted headstock
and the pickups are called Qualrails & are designed here in the USA
( I've heard they are pretty decent sounding too)
the tuners are Gotoh

Eddie Van Halen, Gene Simmons ( KISS) and countless
other famous rock & metal guitarists have used Kramer in the 1980s

You're right, I don't like the endless Strat and Les Paul clones!. I've always liked quirky, unique instruments!. (But they have to be practical too!.)

The top choice on my $450 wishlist is the Yamaha RGX A2:

It has a semi-hollow body to make it lightweight!. Body is sculpted to make it very comfortable!. The pickup selector switch has a very cool LED backlight!. Action and sound is comparable to any other good electric!. Most of the guitar places sell this for around $499, but I did find it for $449 at Kraft Music!.

If I had a bigger budget, I'd love to have a Rickenbacker 360!. I love the design and twangy sound!. BTW, I've had a 1977 Rick 4001 bass which I bought new when I was a teenager!. Still marvel at how easy-to-play and comfortable that bass is!.
