Question: What's a guitar "tone pot"!?

The other posters are correct in saying it's a potentiomenter (aka, variable resistor)!.

The additional thing which gives it "tone" control is a small capacitor needs to be wired in parallel with the wiper of the pot!. That makes a variable-gain low-pass filter to cut some of the high frequencies from the signal path!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's the peice underneath the tone knob!. The peice the knob connects to and turns!.
The knob that increases or decreases tone!.
When you turn the knob up, the tone is sharp!.
when you turn it down, the tone is flat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Pot" is short for potentiometer - another name for a variable resistor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
