Question: Instrument!? Whistle!?
I play the guitar and a little bit of piano and I recently saw an instrument I thought was cool!. It was called a whistle and looked like this http://www!.wikihow!.com/images/thumb/2/26!.!.!.

Would it be weird to buy and practice this as well!? Certain instruments, like the flute for example, are more feminine than other and my dad is a bit of a bloke who doesn't tolerate things like that!.

OOOh!.!.a penny whistle!. A minute to learn, a lifetime of fun!.!.!.all for under 10 bucks (what's that, like 2 pounds now!?)! You can pick out tunes on that in a split second if you have an ear!. Two of my favorites on it are All My Lovin by the Beatles and Amazing Grace!. A haunting sound, a great example of it it that song by Celine Dion from Titanic!.

Hey, the other thing you can do is get one of those Harmonica things for around your neck and play harmonica while playing the guitar, al la Bob Dylan and Neil Young!. You can accompany yourself if your harp is in the same key you are playing in!.!.!.

Good luck!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It looks much like something we'd call in the States a penny whistle

It is not feminine to play!. I bet there'd be some Irishmen who'd love to tussle with him if he said they looked like a poofter playing one!.

I believe that's a very popular instrument in Celtic music!.

I don't imagine there's a whole lot of musical styles that would fit with a penny whistle, since there is not a lot of notes on it!.
But if you want to learn to play one, go for it!. It will fit nicely into much of the traditional musics found in the U!.K!.

Every instrument you learn to play broadens your musical experience and makes you more valuable as a musician!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
