Question: Help! Saxophone players or reed players!?
I've played the alto sax for 8 years!. During the past two or three years I've developed a weird condition!. If I play for more than half an hour, the air doesn't seem to go out my mouth, it goes out my nose!. It kind of hurts and I can't play at all!. I have no breath!.
also, I just learned last year that I don't play by touching my tongue to the reed!. I make little throat air puffs!. Maybe this has something to do!.!.!.maybe not!.
Please help!.!.!.it's really annoying not being able to play more than 30 minutes!. My band teacher doesn't know what to doWww@QuestionHome@Com

Okay, there's a kid in my band class that never uses his tongue and directors jump all over him because it's considered wrong to not tongue!. As for your air-out-the-nose problem, I have no clue what could do that!. It's weird that you've been playing for 8 years and are just now getting this problem!. Maybe try buying a nose plug (the kind swimmers use to keep water over they're nose) and keep it on when your practicing at home!. It may just be a habit!. Or it could be your mouth muscles slacking and forcing air through your nose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You've played the alto for 8 years and you've never "tonged" a note!?!? You'll have to re-learn the proper embouchure (sp!?) I do believe!. I don't play the alto, but I understand reed instruments, I had a friend that played one, and I sat next to them for 6 years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
