No offense intended, but why would you self-teach!? The first year or so of learning is your formative phase, and any bad habits you pick up then will be almost impossible to shake later on!. Honestly, do yourself a favour and take even just a few lessons from someone who knows their stuff!. A little push in the right direction can do you a world of good and make it easier to learn on your own later own!.

As for a keyboard, don't get one with fewer than 60 keys (black + white) or you'll be limited later on!. Electric keyboards are fine, but make sure you get one that's sensitive to dynamics (pressing harder = louder sound)!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The piano is one instrument that you can NOT SELF TEACH on!.!.!. it's all about TECHNIQUE and you can't learn that by self teaching or for free off the internet!.!.!. the is only ONE WAY to learn how to play the piano and that REQUIRES A PIANO TEACHER!.!.!.!.

Not only that!.!.!. but it REQUIRES A PIANO TOO!.!. Playing ANY instrument is a MECHANICAL SKILL and you can only learn that through PRACTICE!.!.!. no amount of reading about it will make you an instant musician!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Self teaching for the piano won't be very effective!. You can hire a private piano teacher, it might be pricey but worth it!. To me, any keyboard will work, but don't overuse all the cool effects even though it's tempting!. If you get a private piano teacher, she or he will provide the books!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

get an electronic keyboard (casios are good, the older the better), the more keys the better!. keep your fingers CURLY!. learn proper fingering on your scales or you'll have to relearn when you finally realize you need real lessons!. But piano is one of the easiest instruments to learn!. So you'll do OK, I guess!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First you need a piano and then you need your hands!. That should cover the basics!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
