Question: Broadway songs to sing!?
I'm taking voice lessons and my intrustor wants me to bring in a song that I could potentionally sing for a chorus show!. she wants it to be from Broadway, but not too recent!. I have a pretty wide range, but would prefer something in the alto/second soprano range!. I love Broadway and all types of music, just to know a little about my taste, but I can't think of anything

any suggestions!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your teacher is absolutely right telling you not to do something really modern!. If it is in a show right now then people have an idea of what is is supposed to be and then it is harder to make the song your own without being compared to whoever is doing the role now!. For example: how many times have you heard someone sing Defying Gravity from Wicked and thought, well they're good, but they aren't Idina Menzel!. That's how I see it anyway, but it's just a thought!.

Anyway:
Look at some older shows like Camelot or The Music Man!.
Till There Was You-The Music Man
What I Did For Love-Chorus Line
Home-Beauty and the Beast(not as old, but excellent song)
Love, Look Away-Flower Drum Song
Before I Gaze at You Again-Camelot
The Simple Joys of Maidenhood-Camelot
Far From The Home I Love-Fiddler On The Roof
I Enjoy Being A Girl-Flower Drum Song
Comes Once in a Lifetime-Streetcars are for Sleeping(really fun but no one knows it so you can make it your own)
Anything from Gypsy could work

Anyway, thats just a very short list!. There are so many songs out there to choose from!. Do a google search of mezzo/alto broadway songs!. It could give you something!.Good LuckWww@QuestionHome@Com

Phantom of the Opera has some great songs, but they are difficult to sing!. Sweeney Todd is really fun to sing as well!. Or you could try a song from RENT!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Can you do things from Wicked or Hairspray!? Or is it too recentWww@QuestionHome@Com
