Tips for writing songs?

Question: Tips for writing songs!?

So me and my friend are in a band and we've been playing cover songs!. So I want to start writing my own songs!. However, I barely know anything about writing songs!. So, could you guys give me some tips!? Our band includes vocals, guitar, and piano!. Should I start writing lyrics first and then guitar and piano!? Or what!? Anything would help me really!. There's no set process in writing songs: some write the lyrics first while others write the music first, it doesn't matter!. As long as you can somehow marry the two elements together that's what's most important!. Sometimes you'll find yourself writing music first, but you usually write the lyrics before anything else!. This switch happens to me frequently!.

Look at the lyrics of the songs your band covers!. See how the artist makes images, stories, or sends a message with his lyrics!.

What makes a good song-lyric wise-for you!? Whatever you say to this question, make your own lyrics have these qualities!.

Songwriting-like with everything else-takes practice!. And the only way you're going to get better at writing is writing everyday, even if what you have written down isn't good!. You're learning!.

Don't force inspiration!. That'll come to you when you least expect it, so be ready for it!. To make inspiration come just a little easier, pay attention to the world around you, and personal experiences (friends included)!.
Once you write a full song, revise until you KNOW it's perfect and you're happy with it!. Never throw away old lyrics because you may need a verse for a new song and it may be there in that pile!.

Well, everyone has their own way of writing!. The only thing I can say is that when I write songs, they usually just flow!. Take something you're passionate about, either something you hate or love, and that will get you started!. I mean, its just like writing poems!. It will come easy after you write a few!.
