When you inhale, your tummy should expand outwards as your diaphragm expands to pull air down into your lungs!. Then when you sing, push the air out by contracting your tummy and diaphragm!. If your shoulders rise up when you inhale, you're breathing too shallowly and you won't be able to get any power from your lungs that way!. Basically what you're looking for is the feeling that your voice is starting somewhere down around your midsection!. If you feel like your voice is coming mostly from your throat and shoulders, you won't be able to get any volume!. These tips work for people with low voices (altos or basses) or people with high voices (sopranos and tenors) equally well!. As the singer in the group when it is your time to sing they should play "second fiddle" to your voice volume and play softer!. The guitar then becomes a companion to your voice not a competitor!. !. Many amateur players have lost opportunites to be part of a group because they could not accept the fact that soft playing is the way to back-up the singer!. Your voice "volume" have nothing to do with the ability of the group to adjust to your natural singing volume!. Singers who try to "yell" to overcome the "back up" instruments wind up loosing whatever good interpretation of the song they were trying to perform and the overall result is mediocre at best!.Www@QuestionHome@Com this was my problem too!. what worked for me is singing along with any tune in my MP3 player, volume turned up!. i make it a point to hear my voice louder than the music playing!. that's what also made me realize that i wasn't opening my mouth wide, which is the reason i sounded too low!. or ask your band mates to turn down their strumming a bit in order to complement your voice!.
