Most of the answers got it right!. Electric acoustic made to make acoustic louder!. There are even amps specifically for electric acoustics to make the louder acoustic sound more acoustic!. I personally like Ovation guitars!. They have a new one, Ovation Viper which is similar to the old solid body electrics, but hollowed out with special pickups and controls to go from electric tones to acoustic tones!. Looks highly versatile from what I've been reading on their site, but costs over 1000!. It's been my experience that any guitar under $500 is not very good, except those rare finds at the pawn shop!. An electric-acoustic guitar is, in my opinion, a tool for acoustic guitar players to use to play live!. You can plug it into an amp and use electric effects, but it plays like an acoustic, so don't get one expecting to do any metal shredding or crazy soloing!. It's not like having both instruments--you have an acoustic guitar that plays like an acoustic guitar, but you can distort the sound!. I have a great Ibanez acoustic-electric that cost about $300 and it has a beautiful acoustic sound that stays just as pure and rich when plugged into a PA system!. If you plug it into a guitar amp, it sounds like an electric guitar, but it doesn't play like an electric guitar!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The difference is an electric acoustic is an acoustic you can plug in to an amplifier!. You can get a distorted sound if you plug one up to an amp meant for electric guitars!. It all depends on what brand any guitar is made from!. Your Martin acoustics are thousands, your Gibson guitars are thousands, and whatever electric-acoustics are made from a certain brand, they are sure to cost from about $250 to $10000!. The reason I say ten thousand would be close to the most, well, think of signature artist guitars!. They are worth a lot!. So I would guess the same as acoustics and electrics!. In price, not sound!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, it will not!. The difference is that real electric guitars have magnetic pickups and electric-acoustics have piezo pickups (under the bridge)!. The purpose of an electric-acoustic is to retain the acoustic sound but make it louder!. You can certainly add pedals but still you're starting off with the acoustic sound!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
