I've been playing flute for a bit over five years now!. For three of those years, I took private lessons!. They help a TON!.
Tips:
- Use your breath to support your notes, if you're getting a weak one, try taking a deeper breath!.
- Try adjusting your head joint!. It should make a straight line with the keys on the body of your flute!. It helps if you leave a little bit of space, and don't push it in completely!.
- I always found that doing scales by starting with eight beats, then four, then half notes, then quarters, and so on, is helpful with learning breathing 'stamina'!.
- Make up patterns, and try using them to help!. Here are a few that I've done in previous years:
Add-A-Note: B Flat Scale- F=flat
B(F)
B(F)-C-B(F)
B(F)-C-D-C-B(F)
B(F)-C-D-E(F)-D-C-B(F)
B(F)-C-D-E(F)-F-E(F)-D-C-B(F)
B(F)-C-D-E(F)-F-G-F-E(F)-D-C-B(F)
B(F)-C-D-E(F)-F-G-A-G-F-E(F)-D-C-B(F)
B(F)-C-D-E(F)-F-G-A-B(F)-A-G-F-E(F)-D-!.!.!.

And then do it backwards, starting on the upper B Flat

-Try doing octave exercises, Start on the lowest note of a scale, and go up the scale until you've gone two octaves, then go back down!.

-Chromatic scales are also very helpful for developing tones!.

-also try going down the scale, breathing more into the mouthpiece for a deeper, richer sound!.

-Get a couple of scale and exercise books and practice!. After a while you'll get the hang of it!.

I hope that you begin to sound better, and that you remember that practice really does make perfect!.

First of all its 'flautist' not "flutist"!. Now that we have that out of the way!.!.!. First be sure that the pads are making contact all the way around without gaps!. If this is a used flute you may have to get it re-padded if they are cracked or worn!. If the instrument is sound then try"rolling" or turning the flute as you blow!. Do this while making slight adjustments in embouchure until you get tone!. For correct embouchure be sure part of your bottom lip is covering the tone hole and blow across it while tightening your lips somewhat!. If this isn't working put the flute down, take a slow deep breath or two and relax!. Then try again!. It doesn't matter how many tries it takes so don't get too frustrated if it doesn't come right away!. It takes most beginners many many attempts before they "get it"!.

It takes practice but once you get it down it will become second nature and you won't have to think of it as much!.

I hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Use a lot of air and blow across the opening not in it!. also, you may need to turn the head of the flute in or out depending on how you are playing!.
Hope I helped !!! ;PWww@QuestionHome@Com
