Question: So ive played guitar 9 years and i hold the pick with thumb index AND middle!. I heard this isnt wrong!.!?
i heard its not wrong but can prevent like certain things like!. picking and fingerpicking at once!. and also some tapping and such!. also i heard that it limits control!. Is this a bad habit!? should i change it(i play all styles including shred) will this hold me back from playing or do i just keep picking the same and continue like this!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It could be limiting!. Try it the standard way for a while!.In fact, try everything and try to master it!. Then develop your own, experienced style!.

Jerry Garcia and Rev!. Gary Davis didn't do anything with standard fretboard or plucking, and their methods certainly worked for them!.

Good luck to you in your musical career!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm actually having the same problem!. I've been playing 6 years and hold it the same way, and i've never thought about it before until my drummer started telling me that my pick holding technique sucked (Don't worry, he's a pretty decent guitarist too aha)!. So I've been reading all over and watching videos and personally, I really don't think it matters!. Do whatever feels most comfortable for you!. That seems to be the key element here!. I've tried playing the standard way the past couple days, and it's about the same as this 3-finger way!. I can do pinch harmonics a little easier with standard, but overall, it's less comfortable for me, which impedes my playing!. The only thing I can think of being a problem is if you like picking with your fingers at the same time, or need to do taps while sweeping!. But I think if it's ever slowing you down, practicing it and rising above it will only make you better, and a more solid guitar player overall!. Hope this helped, and good luck! Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you've been playing for 9 years and sound good at it, who cares how you hold your pick!? Does it honestly matter how it's held!? As long as it works for that one person who's holding it it shouldn't matter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Who cares as long as it sounds good!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
