You'll want to do a little research before you start in on the strapless gown -- fitting and understructure is everything here!. Suggested reading: Susan Khalje's book, Bridal Couture, and whatever Kenneth King DVDs you can get hold of, especially 'Birth of a Bustier'!. Then check the dresses section of Vogue, Butterick, Simplicity, Burda, McCalls!.

The less onerous (and much more comfortable) option would be to use a nude stretch fabric as the top of the dress, much as the Olympic gymnasts and ice skaters use!. Fitting can be much less precise, and you can breathe, and the dress can hang from the shoulders, also very useful for plunging necklines or backlines when the costume has to be able to stay on the performer!. <g>

Here you can see nude stretch fabrics on skating costumes!.!.!. nearly invisible on the wearer: http://www!.skatingdress!.com/coutureskati!.!.!.
