Most bigger bands now a days use a wireless setup for their guitars!. It's much like a wireless microphone setup!. "The Bug" is one brand that is a simple 1/4 inch jack with an antenna that transmits to a pack you wear on your belt, it transfers to the other "Bug" plugged into either the pedals on the floor or directly into the amplifier!. Most pro bands do use wireless setups nowadays!.
Back in the old days when I was a performing guitar player, There were no such things!. And you kinda get a feel as to where your cord is!. And I used to bounce around and do all that Hendrix type stuff!. But, yeah, every once in a while, you could get get a bit tangled!.
I don't worry so much about the guitarists and their cords!.!.!.!.I'm more afraid for the singer or other players not paying attention and tripping over someone else's cord :-)
