Position:Home>Performing Arts> I want to learn to drum?Question: I want to learn to drum!? Okay!. I'm trying to get into music!.!.!. i'm learning the guitar!.!.!. now i want to learn the drums!.!.!. I also dance so i can keep up with rhythm!.!. !.I just need help with overall drumming!. I don't know which things to hit!. I just wanna get some experience before taking lessons!. Any websites or books!.!. !.or tips!?
THANKS!Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: First of all, rythem is always a good quality to possess!. So congratulations that's the first step!. Next, I would start to learn how to read sheet music and interpret notes and all!. But the most essential part to drumming is the rudiments!. Check out those different rolls and techniques to help you!. I'd also want to practice rolling especially, and how to bounce the stick properly on the drum!. Like, I know that sounds weird, but it will help you out a lot if you're playing well!.!.!.anything!. And a big pointer that some beginners don't realize is that you're playing with flicks of your wrist!. Don't use your whole arm!. It'll tire you out, and plus, it's just not correct!. That's just a few little things that I've learned over the years and might be good for you to remember!. As far as hitting all the other drums on a drumset or whatever, I wouldn't be too concerned about that yet!. I'd start out with the snare, learn all of the rudiments and such, then slowly work with the snare and bass!. Then once you're ready add the crash cymbol or hi-hat!. Then once you can do the basic stuff, I'd add in the toms!. Once you start getting the flow of beats, and you kind of almost memorize what everything sounds like, and just beat them into whatever rythem you're playing!. And by doing that you hear what sounds good and what doesn't!. And lastly, If you want to do a little research or just some inspiration, I'd check out some of the following bands: Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Who, Dave Matthews Band, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Tool, Rage Against The Machine, System Of A Down, The Mars Volta, Avenged Sevenfold, The Police, and Slipknot!. Well, that's pretty much everything I can say about drumming!.
