Question: Trouble playing 16th notes where the 1 2 3 or 4 is a 16th rest
alright!.!.!. i have some rudiments and crap that i have to go through!.!.!.and im having trouble playing 1e a 2e a etc!. without the 1 or 2 so its just (1)e a e a e a e a and while im playing it i have to mark time while i play!. and im having trouble because it just feels weird playing without the down beat!.!.!.i can play it at about 90 bpm and 100 bpm, but once i get to 120 bpm its hard for me to fit 3 16th notes in the time it takes me to lift up a foot and put it back down (marking time)!.!.!.is there a trick to this or something!? how did you learn it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

i teach the pattern (16th rest 3 16th notes) by having my drummers hit the rim on the rest, then i have them ghost the rest (swing the stick but not make contact with the rim/head)!. once they have the feel internalized-we drop all the excess motion (ghosting etc!.)!.
we do this with a dr beat running 16th note sub pulse - quarter note=80 to start, then increase speed gradually!. this works with 7th grade beginners!Www@QuestionHome@Com
