We all hit walls from time to time!. Sometimes my students will tell me that they are getting nowhere - that the more they practice, the WORSE they sound!. GOOD!! I tell them! That indicates musical growth! You need to have PERCEPTION of what you want - that is mental, and can come in a flash or over a short period of time!. Then, you need to be able to ACCOMPLISH your perception - and that takes time and practice!. So - let's say your accomplishment skills have grown a foot - and your PERCEPTION of where you want to go next has grown TWO feet!. You still have made much progress - but you are fixated on the GAP between what you WANT (perception) and what you can do (accomplishment)!. Therefore, when you feel that the GAP has widened - you think you went backwards!. NOT SO! You have grown both in your goals and your ability to execute them!. Does this make sense!?

A famous British philosopher once said "If a man's REACH does not exceed his GRASP - then what is Heaven for!?" We grow by striving - not by saying "There - that's done!" When something is finished, it begins to die and calcify!. So be GRATEFUL for what burns inside you - even if it hurts sometimes!. THAT is what keeps you alive!

Go give yourself another kick in the butt - not by beating yourself up, but by finding your GOAL, your PERCEPTION of what you wish - then start moving towards it!. As you go up and down hills, it might dip out of sight momentarily, but that does not mean it is gone - it si just over the next hill!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I played piano for several years before I moved out of home and no longer had room for a piano!. I miss it terribly!.!.!. It was my 'thing' if you know what I mean!. Whenever i was happy, sad, angry, etc, I could take it out on my piano!. It's a decision that's entirely up to you!. If you like the piano and enjoy playing, who cares how it sounds!?

If you don't want to keep up the piano perhaps there's another instrument you would like to try!? I just bought a great flute off ebay for example (and I'll always have room for it!)

Your music is about you!. So play however, whenever, and whatever is right for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes - don't give up!. I think you may need to fall in love with the music!. It sounds like you don't have that naturally born desire to play, but you possess the skills!. Give yourself some time - close your eyes and enjoy the cold, slick feel of the piano keys, listen to the melody as you play - just get your other senses invovled if you can!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unless you want to be a bro, 6 hours a day might be a bit too much practice!. That can make you burn out really quickly!.

On the other hand, I would never give it up completely!. I used to play a saxophone, but I gave it up a long time ago and got rid of my sax!. I wish I still had it so I could start practicing again and actually start getting good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course! Maybe you're just trying a bit hard!.!.!. if you keep on practising that much you'll just end up burnt out and hating it!. Why don't you just try playing for an hour every day and enjoy the music!. It's not a competition, so why the big rush to be perfect!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course you should!.

If you have the time you should!. Learning an instrument is always frustrating but it takes at least 3 years to be at least Grade 1 standard!. You have the right practicing attitude, you've got a musical dad, so why not!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you should keep practicing until your satisfied!. What do you mean your getting no where!? career wise!? or learning wise!?

Your so lucky you can play, I wish I could! Www@QuestionHome@Com
