Question: What sort of equipment for a simple sound system and lighting!?
I'm putting on a performance in an old town hall, and I will need to play music from cds, but I don't know what kind of equipment I need!. Is there a way to connect a standard cd player to loud-speakers!? If not, what else could I use instead, and where can I buy it!? I also want to have several mics for the singers - how do you hook mics up to speakers!? I heard that it is really expensive to rent a spot light - is there another alternative!? Maybe something I can get at Home Depot!? It doesn't have to be professional; it can be really simple - the stage is very small!. I'm just not sure where to start!. What equipment should I look for, and where can I find it!? Where can I find the things I need for fewer dollars!?

Hi Meir!. First option would be to look in your phone book for the local music stores!. Some local stores rent out small P!.A!. systems with the mics and cables you would need for a decent price!. If you do have a Guitar Center nearby, I would not contact them!. Unfortunately, they dont do rentals like your local "mom and pops" music stores!. Next would be to advertise in a local paper for someone willing to donate there time and pa system for this cause!. You dont say if its a charity function or not, and a lot of sound companies are glad to participate in events like this!. Well, at least around here they are! If theres any open mic nights around, check a few of those out and see if whoever is running it would have a P!.A!. to rent out!. Chances are, if they have a small P!.A!. available, they would probably be willing to help with setting it up and making sure the show runs smoothly for a small fee!. Lastly click on this link ive provided!. This is a very simple P!.A!. to use, and besides having a connection for your C!.D!. player, it will also accomodate 5 microphones as well!. The mics and mic cables are not included in this package!.

This next link is an example of a 3 mic package thats very affordable as far as mic's go and would do fine for this type of show!.

Mic cables run anywhere from 9 bucks and up apiece!.

Hope this has helped, and good luck!
