You might need a smaller guitar!. To play a power chord, you usually place your first finger on (for example) the 3rd fret of the low e string, your ring finger on the 5th fret of the a string and your pinkie on the 5th fret of the d string!. (Some people lay their ring finger across the a and d string instead!.) Another option is to use a two string power chord: Lay your first finger on the 3rd fret of the e string and put your pinkie on the 5th fret of the a string!. That should take care of any strectching problems!.
As far as strength goes, it may be a matter of time!. There are things you can do to help, though!. Try putting a capo on the (for example) the 5th fret!. This should help take some of the pressure off the strings for you, making it easier to push down!. After you get used to it, move the capo lower (4th, 3rd fret, etc!.)!. This will help you build strength gradually!. This has really helped a lot of my students!.
also, it may not be you!. If the guitar has to high an action (the distance between the strings and the fretboard), this may be what is hampering you!. You might want to take it to a music store and have them look at it!. They can quote you a price if anything needs to be done, so it won't cost you anything to ask!. I hope this helps and good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
