Question: Crying during auditions!?
I've been to 2 auditions and I ended up crying while I was singing at both of them!. And when I try to push through it my throat starts to close up and my voice starts to lose control!. I think part of it is because I was nervous, but I was singing sad songs!. How can I get myself to stop crying!? I'm used to singing in front of people, but maybe its because I know they're critiquing my voice!?

I'm going to do a talent competion at the State Fair in a few weeks, and I'm singing "I Dreamed a Dream" (yes, another sad song, but I love sad songs) and I'd prefer to not cry!.

And I'll need to be not crying before auditions for scholarships for college (Feb-March)

Thanks for the help!Www@QuestionHome@Com

All you can really do is try to forget about everyone else!. Just focus on having fun, not being judged!. Don't look directly at the judges or even audience members if you don't want to!. Try to look above their heads!.
also, singing a not-so-sad song might help =) But if you really want to sing those, then don't focus on the words!. Forget about their meanings and just let them flow out of you like an unknown language!.

Hope this helped and good luck! =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Here's a thought - - sing a happy song!
I know it's easy to get into a comfort zone, sad songs are generally lyrical & we think they sound prettier!. But you can get stuck in that comfort zone!. So try a song in a genre you arent used to!
Plus especially for a talent competition they generally tend to enjoy the more upbeat songs, plus you can show your HAPPY SIDE!
It'll also help you to develop your voice better, since you're doing something you're not used to!.

Plus you can't cry in a happy song :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well, it's good your connecting with the emotions in your songs :)
But try not to:
A!. Look at the judges or the whoever your auditioning for
B!. Think TOO much about the meanings of the words (just let them flow out of you)
C!. Feel sad (think of happier times)

Good luck with your auditions!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

maybe when you are singing focus your eyes on something in the distance or in the back of the room or wherever you are singing so that you feel that the judges aren't right in your face and you are singing freely!. It might help!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
