Personally, I find it a lot better to just sit with my guitar and create a little tune first then start singing along with whatever is on my mind!. Then I write it down and before I know it, I've created a songWww@QuestionHome@Com

Make sure you have something important to write about!. You can't just sit down and write, you need to have an emotion, experience, etc!. you're writing about!.
Then write down all the things you want to say in your song, without worrying about rhyming or phrases or anything!.
Then you can start to put your thoughts into a poem of sorts!. I think it's easier to come up with lyrics before music, but you can do it the other way around if you want!.
Then you just need to put it to tune!. I'm not sure how to instruct you on this part!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. Always carry a notepad or some sort of recording device (inspiration comes at the weirdest time)

2!. Explore something out of your comfort level-go hiking or take up dance

3!. learn to play an instrument, or at least fiddle with a piano once in awhile
