I have quite a few friends that have their own bands, some are local bands, and two are on their way to "making it" (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and My Sin)!. When my 16 year old daughter decided she wanted to play guitar, I explained to these guys that I wanted to purchase her guitar on Ebay (I don't want to pay retail for anything)!. This was their advice and it worked out wonderfully!.!.!. when I find a guitar she liked on Ebay, visit Harmony Central (link attached), enter the brand and model into the search and read the reviews!. I also would do a general Google of the desired brand and model, this took me to other review sites and allowed me to do price comparison!.

In the past year I have purchased her two acoustic guitars, and we are happy with both!. The first was an Oscar Schmidt by Washburn, it has good sound as is easy to play!. I think I paid about $150 for it, new, off Ebay, shipping and handling included!. I have attached a link of the same guitar!. I then purchased an additional guitar (so she would not have to carry the other around school all day, and could just leave it in the classroom and still have one for at home), it is an Ibenez Exotic Wood series done in quilted ash (link attached, scroll to bottom to see enlarged view), off Ebay, used (they never learned to play it), with a softside Roadrunner case, for about $165, with shipping and handling included!. It sounds awesome!.

The Ibanez is the favored of the two guitars by all of my friends and my daughter!. It is beautiful, I also added a custom abalone and mother of pearl inlay pickguard (link to that seller attached), and while having that applied by a local luthier, we also had him do a professional set up on it (lowered the bridge, etc,)!. All I can tell you is everytime we see these guys, one of them will always ask my daughter if she's ready to sell them the Ibenez, and they're serious!. Hope this helps!

EDITED TO ADD: Just my opinion, but if one can't afford a good Ibenez, they will NEVER be able to afford a Gibson!. Gibson is the creme de la creme of guitars, very pricey!. Yes, Gibson makes the Epiphone, just as Washburn makes the Oscar Schmidt, and while both of those guitars are good, neither of them can campare to their predecessors!. You CAN get a great sounding Ibenez at a fair price, it takes patience and diligence, but it can be done!.!.!. we have one!. Remember to get reviews on your make and model, consumers are honest!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Personally, I don't believe one is better over the other for beginners, acoustic or electric!.

I suggest an electric Ibanez, however!. The GRX20!. It's fairly cheap [$149!.99 at Guitar Center, you can find it cheaper], and is a nice guitar that will last you a long time!. It is definitely VERY worth its price and plays like a $400 or so-dollar guitar It is also very versatile and will play great anything from metal to country to rock!.

I would not recommend an Ibanez or a Squier!. You can't go wrong with Gibson, Epiphone, ESP and Jackson!. The reason why I wouldn't recommend the other two is because in order to get a good sounding Ibanez you have to pay alot!. ESP if you are into metal and stuff!. Its awesome!. They can range from $300 and up!. Definitely a great buy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Usually if you are starting out you will want an acoustic!.

I would go with a Seagull S6

At the Guitar Center it's selling for $397 but I'm sure you could get it on eBay for $100

Good luck on finding a guitar!Www@QuestionHome@Com

depends whether you want to play acoustic or electric!. if it is electric then i suggest getting a squireWww@QuestionHome@Com
