Question: Is the epiphone G-400 a good substitute for the gibson sg when it comes to playing alternative / heavy metal!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It uesd to be that the Epiphones were excellent, top-quality guitars!. Then, for awhile, they were as cheaply made as the Squiers!. However, in recent years the Gibson company has been building exceptionally good Epiphones!. Go for it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

its a good substitute for the SG, but you can get better for the price!. try looking at the schecter S-1, or other schecter guitars, which are all great for metal and all types of music!. i personallly swear by fenders for pretty much anything, though i own several guitars!. the problem with SG shaped guitars is that they are not made with much wood, and thus do not resonate well!. stay well away from bc rich and esp and ltd, as all those brands overprice their guitars very much!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a great guitar, but the strings are far from the neck so it will take some pressure to fret them which might slow you down!. That will depend on your hand strength, I am a big fan of PRS guitars myself, their Mark Tremonti model is like playing a stick of butter, go to guitar center and try it before you make any investments!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Looks-wise, yes, obviously!. But the output of the cheap pickups will leave you wanting more!. Buy a decent bridge pickup and install it and you'll be much happier!. It will still be less cost than a Gibson SG (but not by a lot)!. Get a Gibson Dirty Fingers or 490T or '57 Classic!. You'll love it!. If not Gibsonm then get a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB Humbucker!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

try the esp viper 400 you' ll like it!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
