Hi Lacey!. :))

Now to answer your question:

Your band director must be pretty young and is obviously not a flute player!. The Armstrong Company has been making Armstrong flutes for about 50 years!. It is an old company and has made literally millions of flutes over the years!.

As a flute teacher!.!.!. I would not say Armstrong was a better flute than Yamaha!. In fact, it is not a better playing, sounding, feeling, instrument than Yamaha at all!. The only way you can determine that for yourself is to ask mom to take you to a music store so that you can play test both of the instruments side by side!.
More band directors and more private lessons teachers request students play on Yamaha!. They are more consistant through the registers and are very, very sturdy and dependable flutes!.

If you are trying to sell your flute and it is in excellent condition!.!.!. good pads, no dings or dents, no tarnish, no leaks, nice case!.!.!. close to looking new, I would say you can ask $300!.00 for it!. If it is in poor condition but still playing, you might get $150!.00!.!.!. but it might not sell at all!.
As parents are wanting good playing and looking instruments for their students!.!.!.!.!. Not going to pay alot of money for a flute that looks bad!. Would you!?

So there!. I hope I was able to answer your question to your satisfaction!.

Your teacher is unfortunately wrong, Yamaha is way more durable and of better sound quality than Armstrong! It's always wise to ask more than just one opinion, and never ever use ebay or any auction site for buying instruments because they can sell all kind of crap there!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can go on Ebay and do a search for them and see what the final prices of the Armstrong flutes that sold were!. They even have tools to check what the average selling price has been over the the last 6 mos!. etc!. Check it out!! : )Www@QuestionHome@Com
