Question: Guitar won't stay in tune!?
I put new strings on my guitar on Saturday and every time I tune it, it goes out of tune!. I know the strings are stretching, but how long will this take!?!? I have a performance soon and I might just go back to my old strings!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Same thing used to happen to me ALOT, I would string them and they would go out of tune for days afterwards!. If you're performance is 3 or 4 days I wouldn't worry!.

What would suggest is wrapping as much of the string as possible around the nut (this is really annoying and tiring but it workd)!. I don't know why scientifically but usually when I do that I only have to retune once or twice across maybe a day or two!.

Hope this help, If there are any guitar techs they'll tell you how to get it right the first time, from what I know in world class situations guitar techs can re-string a guitar 5 mins before a show and hand it to Kirk Hammett without it going out of tune!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Um!. You can't go back to your old strings!. Throw them away-they are useless now that you have taken them off!. It depends on the strings, the guitar and the climate!. My guitar usually takes between an hour and 2 weeks to adjust!. Or, it could be that the strings just suck and will never stay in tune as long as you want!. If you are having trouble, get some Elixers, the most expensive and well reputed strings on the market, and get them put on by a professional luthier!. While you're at it, you might as well get your guitar "set up", as most luthiers will change the strings for free when you do!. You should have your guitar set up occasionally anyways!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF REASONS IT COULD BE DOING THAT!. IF IT WAS STAYING IN TUNE BEFORE THEN I WOULD SAY ITS PROBABLY THE WAY THE STRINGS WERE PUT ON !. BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN THE STRINGS THE LAST THING YOU DO IS STICK THE STRING BACK THRU THE HOLE AND MAKE SURE YOU PUT IT BETWEEN THE STRNG ALREADY WRAPPED AROUND THE PEG THAT WAY IT TIGHTENS ON ITSELF AND CANT SLIP IFYOU STILL HAVE PROBLEMS E MAIL ME AND ILL TRY TO HELPWww@QuestionHome@Com

You may need new tuners, or they're just loose!. Try tightening the screws a little!. Strings don't take that long to stretch!. Forget the old strings!. If you attempt to put them back on, they will most likely snap!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't go back to your old strings, just bend each string, retune , and repeat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
