I would suggest to start playing along with some blues music!. A few reasons behind this is for one the tempo in blues is slower, which makes it easier to follow along with!. If you have no experience or limited experience on the bass, why would you want to try to play to some fast music that you cant make heads or tails of!? Takes quite a while to get a trained ear, and become familiar with the changes going on in the music!. also, playing a little slower when learning will help develop techniqe in both hands!. You'll be able to hear what YOUR doing a little easier to!. Its not necessary to play everything note for note that you hear on a C!.D!. While Stevie Ray Vaughns guitar playing may be very demanding and complex, theres quite a few songs he played that would be good starting points!. Leave My Girl Alone is one song, as well as Texas Flood!. The bass is a very dominant part of the song, not extremely challenging, and not to fast paced!. But in turn, you can hear how important the bass guitar is in these songs while also hearing a bit of the blues scale!. Some old Chuck Berry and any "Rock and Roll" from the late 1950's is also a good starting point!. Rather than learning any music strictly from a link, I would combine that as well as listening to what you want to learn, as it makes it much easier to follow when hearing all of the music in the song!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Find some old punk songs to play!. Sex Pistols and Ramones!. New punk stuff (green day, et al) get a little more complicated!.

There's Riff Interactive that does a bunch of high-tech lessons online!. There's a bunch of other companies doing the same thing as well!.
There's also stuff like GarageBand and Band-In-a-Box that will allow you to make songs sort of on the fly, with the bass section of the song taken out!. You play the bass, it does the rest!.

It'll be tricky learning the bass without a band, because you really won't know if you're playing it right until you hear what it sounds like played against drums and guitar!. Up until then, it seems like playing around!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

when I first started bass I learned on blink-182 songs at first!. They have ridiculously easy rhythms and usually only have like 6 notes to them!. They're still really entertaining to play though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
