Question: I want to use an adapter for my mellophone!.!?
I would like to buy an adapter for my mellophone that would allow me to use my French horn mouthpiece on the mellophone!. Has anyone found any good adapters!? For those of you who have, what is it!? Does it help you a lot in marching band (or whatever you use your mellophone for)!? What are the ups and downs to getting an adapter!?

also, both mellophones and marching French horns use trumpet fingerings, so is it safe to assume that a mellophone with a French horn mouthpiece has the trumpet fingerings, also!?

If anyone can answer all that, thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, regardless of your mouthpice the mellophone will play in F with the same trumpet fingerings!. Marching french horns can be in different keys, (some drum corps march Bb horns, or G) but whatever key your instrument is in, the mouthpeice will not effect it or the fingerings!.

I wouldn't recommend using an adaptor, though!. You're better off just getting used to the mello mouthpice (similar to a trumpet, but a mello mouthpiece is preferable to a trumpet mouthpiece)!. Mellophones have ridiculous issues with playing in tune to begin with, and using the wrong mouthpiece and an adaptor just exacerbates the problem!.
also, the angle you hold the mello at is different than that of a horn, so using the adaptor doesn't really give you any benefits of similarity!.
After all, a mellophone is much less a horn than it is just a trumpet on steroids!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've been using my French horn mouthpiece for my mellophone!. I don't have an adapter!. If you really want one, you can go to your local music shop and ask one of the employees!. A mellophone with a French horn mouthpiece does have the trumpet fingerings!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

trumpet mouthpieces are more secure on the notes you try to hit,!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

french horn mouthpieces can get more of a darker/horn sound!

if you must use an adapter, DEG has a pretty good one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
