if there isn't a prescribed prompt, write about your marching experiences, why you would be a good leader, et cetera!.
for instance, when i wrote my section leader essay last month i wrote about my experience switching from clarinet to mellophone and having to prove myself to all the horn players!. make sure you mention any honors, i!.e!. we have "artist marchers", anything distinguising!. you can mention problems you overcame, as well!.

if they leave it open, they're not looking for something specific, more just wanting a look at your thoughts, personality, et cetera!. just make sure it's honest and sounds like you!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Talk about how you personally would promote not only your section but the band!. Responsibility is key!. Basically, if your director chooses you, he's putting a part of his job in your hands!. Explain what you would do during practices and performances to enhance your section and make them better not only as musicians but as a family/team!. Just remember, marching band isn't about one section or one person!. The whole point is to work together as a whole band to make a spectacular show and to provide an outlet for those who love to play!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
