Question: Building vocal strength!?
Hey, I was wondering how I could work up my vocal strenth and stuff over the summer!. We're doing Urinetown newt year at my school, and I woud to love to at least have a solo, if not play a character like little sally!. This past year, I have sung tenor more times than I can count, so my voice is pretty dang screwed up right now from singing so low all the time (I was a soprano freshman year, got switched to alto as a sophomore because there wern't enough altos, and then was asked to sing tenor this year because we didn't have enough boys)!.
So, my voice is crazy screwed up, and I need to fix it before my last musical in high school!.
Any ideas!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

OK im an actress but i usually do Shakespeare and Noel Coward etc!. not musicals, but the same vocal cords are used so this should work!.
1!. I know this sucks but stay away from heavily sugared, salted or grainy food!. This may sound odd but they can actually form small cuts and damages that arent painful in our throat, which causes us to sound raspier, and makes it harder to carry!. also, some dairy products cause some people to formulate more mucus, which also is bad for our voice!.
2!. Drink lots of water, always!. Its great!. For everything! And it makes your voice much clearer and stronger!.
3!. Stretch!. The more relaxed your body is the more relaxed your vocal cords will be!. It also helps out alot with stage fright!.
4!. Breath deeply!. and by the way the whole " in through your nose out through your mouth" does not necessarily make you breath deeper, so whatever is most comfortable for you!.
5!. OPEN YOUR MOUTH you will be easier to understand and louder
6!. REST CHILD! Your voice is stressed right now so doing too many warmups that use your voice will only inflame your vocal area more!. Stay healthy and they will heal in no time, but remember to rest them!. But do not be silent for a week and think they will have healed because thats not how it works!. Just talk normally and try not to stress your voice, which you can do by singing loudly and (surprisingly) mimicking others!.

first off shame on your music teacher for making you sing tenor!.!. that's way bad for your voice!.!.

and second!.!. just work on your breathing and making sure your throat is nice and open!.!. don't worry too much about sound but make sure the notes are buzzing properly!.!. if you can feel a buzz in your forehead or around that area, even if you can't hear it, your voice is actually carrying very well!. When you're singing properly, you can almost never actually hear it that well for yourself!. Others will notice thoughWww@QuestionHome@Com
